An important tool of provenance research is the documentation of researches and restitutions. It helps not only in the assessment of stocks in the SLUB, but equally supports external research.

The systematic and successive documentation of provenance features, which have been recorded as part of provenance projects in the SLUB since 2009, is carried out in the collection "provenance research" in the Deutsche Fotothek.

In addition, finds of suspicious or confirmed loot books are reported to Lost Art database.
